Title: Dear Basketball/Literary Devices
Description:

In this learning activity, students will be introduced to literary devices used in poetry through the video, Poetic Devices Defined. Then, students will define and give an example of a literary device at random by spinning a digital wheel. Finally, students will share their definitions and examples with the class through a carousel around the room.

Title: Dear Basketball/Poem Analysis
Description:

In this learning activity, students will read Dear Basketball by Kobe Bryant. Students will then complete a Poetry Analysis graphic organizer looking for the following literary devices in the poem: metaphor, alliteration, rhyme, hyperbole, repetition, imagery, and personification. Finally, students will explain how using the specific literary device enhances the meaning of the poem.

Title: Dear Basketball/Create Your Own Poem
Description:

In this learning activity, students will use a graphic organizer to write their own tribute poem/letter using at least four literary devices of their choice. The students will then partner with another student and read their tribute poems. Finally, student partners will provide feedback on each other's poems using Poetry Feedback Prompts.

Description:

This activity is used to introduce students to mythology. After this activity, learners will be able to identify and categorize the patterns found in various myths. Students will be able to write arguments to compare and contrast the patterns found in two myths.
