Overview:

The students will share their slideshow on their researched American Indian tribe from the activity "The First Americans: Learning About American Indian Heritage". Students will fill in a chart as other students are presenting. They will use the chart to distinguish between American Indian tribes.

This learning activity was created as a result of the ALEX - Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) Resource Development Summit.

Activity:

  1. The students will share their slideshow with the teacher on their tribe from the activity "The First Americans: Learning About American Indian Heritage".

  3. The teacher will lead a discussion to help students distinguish        among tribes by asking two questions: "Where do we see the          most obvious differences between the tribes?" and "What               surprised you the most about tribal differences?"

Assessment Strategies:

The teacher will assess what students have learned about American Indian cultures and their differences by evaluating their slideshows, charts, and discussion answers.


Advanced Preparation:

Duration: 30 - 60 minutes

Materials:

Teacher Preparation:

The teacher will need an interactive whiteboard or projection capabilities for students to share their slideshows.

Teacher may want to print the chart.

Student Preparation:

Students should have completed the during activity  "The First Americans: Learning About American Indian Heritage".

Acceleration:

Students can create another document to add American Indian Tribes to their research chart.

Intervention:

Students needing intervention can work with another student or fill in less information on tribes.

Notes or Recommendations (optional):

This lesson comes after "Uncovering American Indian Cultures: What Do You See in This Photo?" and "The First Americans: Learning About American Indian Heritage".
