During/Explore/Explain
Activity:

  1. The teacher will display the Let's Line Up! slideshow on slide one.
  2. The teacher will ask, "When are some times in the school day that we have to line up?" (wait for the students to respond)
  3. After listening to student responses, the teacher will pass out pre-printed number cards to each student and move to slide two.
  4. The teacher will read the task asking students to line up in number order.
  5. The students will stand and begin to line up in number order.
  6. When the task is completed, the teacher will move to slide three and ask the students the essential questions from that slide (listed below).

    • What number was first and why?
    • Hold up the last card. What number would come next?
    • Hold up the last card. What would the next five numbers be?

Assessment Strategies:

  • The teacher will observe students working through the task to determine students' understanding of the concept and skills.
  • The teacher can use the following guidelines to ensure students meet the learning objective.

Check that the students:

  1. Can quickly get in line based on number order.
  2. Can complete the task independently without help.

Advanced Preparation:

The teacher will need a computer and projector to display both the read-aloud and the task.

The teacher will need to print number cards for the students. The number cards are located within the slide show.
