Phase: | After/Explain/Elaborate |
Activity: | Students will be given a Quiver coloring page that is a map of the world. Students will label the continents and oceans. Students can label the map from memory, or they can copy the labels from another map of the teacher's choice. When students finish coloring and labeling their map, they will use the Quiver app to scan their coloring page. They will be able to see their coloring page turn into a 3D globe that they can spin and manipulate. |
Assessment Strategies: | The teacher will be able to identify if students have correctly labeled their maps. |
Advanced Preparation: | Print the Quiver coloring page. Download the Quiver app to your iPads. The teacher should do a lesson prior to this activity teaching students how to locate the continents and oceans on a map, and how to properly label a map. |
Variation Tips (optional): | Instead of writing the name of each continent, it might be better to have students follow a color key and color each continent a specific color. The writing could get sloppy and be hard to read when the coloring page is turned into the 3D globe. |
Notes or Recommendations (optional): | Do not alter any part of the coloring sheet. The app must be able to read the entire page. Crayons, not markers, work best because if students color over the outlines in black marker, the app can't read the coloring page. Sometimes it takes about 10+ seconds for your iPad to pick up the coloring page, especially if your iPad is a little older. |
