Overview:

This pdf file contains a Spanish version of the USDA's mi plato with the labeled food groups. This printable page is the same that is presented in Science and Health classroom allowing teachers to easily connect their lessons with other subject areas. This Spanish version can be used to label and categorize food vocabulary and to facilitate discussion about healthy food choices in the target language. Suggested activities are posted in the comments below.

Classroom activity suggestions -

Elementary Novice Low - Novice Mid: Ask students to separate vocabulary words into the food group categories. They should write each vocab word in the correct location on the plate and condiments or sweets should be written outside the plate. 


Middle School Novice Low - Novice Mid: Ask students to create their ideal meal. Students to draw each food item and label it in Spanish, making sure to adhere to USDA guidelines. Each student should then share their plate with a friend or group.

 

High School Novice Low-Novice Mid: Students should create their ideal meal by writing appropriate vocab words in each section of the plate, they should choose their favorite foods while making sure to adhere to USDA guidelines. Students should then work in pairs to discuss their food choices. In the target language, they can ask about likes, dislikes, favorites, and least favorites.
