Description:

In this learning activity, the students will work together taking turns to add small quantities encouraging counting on rather than recounting the set from one each time. It engages the students by using the number cubes to produce numbers and collect counters.  It will help students to count and organize numbers more efficiently.

Description:

This learning activity will engage the students using the hundred chart and counters to figure out missing numbers.  The students will enjoy taking turns to hide numbers from their partners all while solving the mystery of the missing numbers.  This activity will increase students' ability to count, read, and write the number to 100 as well as using number patterns to solve.

Description:

This learning activity will review and assess the students' understanding of counting on or counting back to find a missing number. The students will use strategies learned to count, find missing numbers, extend number sequences, and write numbers.

Example: 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9

d. Demonstrate fluency with addition and subtraction facts with sums or differences to 10 by using the relationship between addition and subtraction.

Example: Knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4.

e. Demonstrate fluency with addition and subtraction facts with sums or differences to 10 by creating equivalent but easier or known sums.

Example: adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13

Title: Getting Ready to Snap...Making Numbers
Description:

This learning activity is a teacher-led introduction to composing numbers and to building number sense foundation.  It will provide students with a visual using literature.  It will provide opportunities for a rich discussion about making numbers and provide time to introduce mathematical vocabulary.  The discussion and recording of events from the book will help demonstrate ways to compose numbers in different ways.  It is helpful to use this before playing interactive games that help with composing and decomposing numbers.
