Title: Writing for Catharsis: How Do We Survive?
Description:

This lesson is an internet-based inquiry into the Virginia Tech Massacre and Nikki Giovanni’s poetic response. This lesson ties informative reading and inquiry with the craft of poetry and the role of poetry as catharsis. Students will also recognize the difference between reading a poem and experiencing it as a public performance.

Title: Monologues and Main Ideas
Description:

Through this activity, students will take a monologue that they have been working on and select an image that represents the main idea of the monologue. The images will be projected while each student performs to serve as the backdrop for their performance.
