In this lesson, students will learn about various leadership qualities and historical American leaders. Each student will research an American leader of their choice and create a presentation about their life and impact on our country using the iPad app Educreations. Students will then participate in a class discussion about their thoughts on the researched leaders and how they can show leadership in their everyday lives.

12) Conduct basic keyword searches to gather information.

Students will perform keyword searches inside Pebble Go courtesy of the Alabama Virtual Library to locate information about a chosen animal. Students will research that animal and create a one-pager as evidence of learning. Students will record their two favorite facts and draw a picture of their animal using a graphic organizer.

In this activity, students will use keyword searches in Pebble Go to research a chosen animal and curate information about that animal. The information will be collected on a note-taking graphic organizer.  The students will record four facts about their animal. Students will choose 2 favorite facts from the four they curated.

Students understand that keyword searching is an effective way to locate information on the Internet. They learn how to select keywords to produce the best search results. First, students learn to identify their research goals and choose the best keywords to achieve those goals. Then they apply their knowledge by using their keywords in a search. Students examine their search results and observe how a good choice of keywords can get them the information they want.

Throughout the lesson, students will be able to ...

• learn a step-by-step procedure for selecting suitable keywords.
